Spider Salad???

Welcome to Arizona!! Home to such lovely things as Mohave Green Rattlers, Tarantulas, and Vinegaroons. All to be found right in our backyard.
Here is a Vinegaroon. They are fast and jump. They bite and if you are unfortunate enough to be bitten you will be tasting vinegar for 3 weeks! Everything you put in your mouth will taste of vinegar.
Which of course gave me an idea to make a vinegar salad out of my new cookbook- 1959 Edition of the General Foods Cookbook!!! Thanks Amber.

Start with potatoes. Wash and cook till tender. Peel and slice 1/4 inch thick.

Dice your Grand Canyon onions.

Fresh fruit as a side dish.

Brown your bacon and crumble..set aside.

Cook onion in bacon fat.

Mix oil, vinegar and spices together and add to onions. Add flour, sugar, salt, and celery seed. Simmer until thick.

Add potatoes.

Add crumbled bacon and a dash of parsely.

Ingredients
  • 2 pounds spuds
  • 1/3 cup oil
  • 3-4 TB vinegar
  • 1 TB garlic salt
  • 4-6 slices bacon
  • 3/4 cup onions
  • 1 TB flour
  • 1 TB sugar
  • 1 tea celery seed
  • 1/2 tea salt
  • 1 TB parsley

Perfect summer meal.

Watch out for those spiders!!!

Ack!!!! You are amazingly calm!

What a cute cookbook and the potato salad sounds so good. The biggest thing I miss being vegetarian is bacon.
I'm not afraid of spiders, but I have to admit, if I came face to face with that thing, I might develop arachnophobia very quickly.

Eek!

:)
ButterYum
Vicki,
My daughter claims to be a vegetarian..except for bacon and hot dogs!

ButterYum,
They are not so bad..if you can out run them. :)

Sarah,
You are funny!

Mmmm, sounds good--the salad, not the spiders.
It reminds me of living in Texas when we found a scorpion in the house. Eeeeeeeek!

Btw, from a few posts ago--what is table butter?
