I Love Those Darn Birds!

Something happens every spring in the front and back of our house. Birds! That is what happens. They make a mess. They build their nests right over our front and back doors! Every year!

My bushes become collectors of twigs, leaves, and this year insulation..from who knows where.

Every day I sweep and clean the glass doors. And every day I need to do it again. Luckily, once the nests are built we enjoy the soft chirping of our residents. But it can be overwhelming. I found myself depressed then received the greatest email. I do not know why but I needed a spark of something. And the idea for miniature pies turned into a lollipop gave me the excitement I needed. Thanks Amy for the burst of life!!!

So, not having a recipe only a very cool web site. I began my journey to make something new.

Pie crust and cherry pie filling. Simple ingredients for simple pleasures.

Roll our your pie crust dough.
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 cup shortening (3/4 cup lard)
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 1/2- 1 tea salt
Cut with biscuit cutter.

Always taste dough to make sure it is yummy.

Drop spoonfuls of filling and put a piece of crust on top. Crimp with stick and add a stick.

I sprinkled top with cinnamon and sugar because I thought these would be like my grandmother's pie crust cookies and would need the sugar. They did and next time I would add more.

Bake 375 for 15 minutes or until light brown and done. Cool completely on sheet or your pie will fall off your stick.

"Please, No photos!"

I do love these pops!! and the birds. I love how later in the spring we can hear the baby birds roaming around in the nests. It sounds like it is right in our bedroom!! And they sing so beautifully! I have come to find the daily mess endearing.
