We made peep s'mores for the Easter today...living in the campground has really changed our thinking about food. S'mores have become a staple!!

Biscuits and Gravy

One of our favorite things in Virginia was biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are a thing of wonder and when served open faced with this wonderful gravy..well breakfast heaven. Biscuits and Gravy Recipe from: The Frugal Gourmet Cooks American by Jeff Smith 1/2 pound pork breakfast sausage 2 tablespoons chopped yellow onion 3 tablespoons flour 2 cups hot milk Salt and pepper to taste This dish is made in a frying pan or cast iron skillet. Heat the pan and fry the sausage and onion until the sausage is brown and the onion clear. Drain off all grease except for 2 tablespoons. Stir in the flour and cook for just a minute. Whisk in the hot milk. Whisk constantly until the mixture thickens and then season to taste. Serve warm over open biscuits. Biscuit Recipe

A Bug Birthday Party

Someone is 3 years old!! We had so much fun planning this party. I found an enormous amount of ideas for a bug party on line. We did what we could and pulled off a really fun memory. My husband really made this happen. I was idea committee, cake and food, and party favors. He did all the decorations and games. One of our favorite things to do together is throw a birthday party. Homemade invitation for all the kids. Hand delivered by the party girl. I used my rainbow cake recipe to make cupcakes but not layered. Since we love books so much, we always have books available. As decoration but also if needed for a quick quiet-mellow things down time. An army of party favors: we made lollipop spiders and butterflies with goldfish crackers. Amulet Birthday Party-The Avid Reader Turns 9!

My daughter loves to read...actually we all love to read. Our favorite adventure is a trip to a library! After Santa brought Amulet 1 and 2..well the rest had to follow. The Amulet Series is a graphic novel that my children have eaten up. To see a book trailer...check out The Stonekeeper . Here...an attempt at an Amulet cake! We made a yellow cake with caramel frosting. Both recipes from the King Arthur Flour Baking Companion . I love that cookbook. We had maps that lead us on adventures from the book. Here a satchel full of needed items...party made Amulets, walking stick, sword, snacks, map, and word search. Our first challenge was levitating seeds with our new amulet powers. Sculpting Demon's Head mountain..a place from the book. Here we had the challenge of eating Gadoba fruit off of the Gadoba tree. Joel did our party decor!!
