Ezekiel 4:9 Bread

I fell in love with Ezekiel bread. I picked up a loaf out of desperation when we were traveling. I wanted something "healthy" since we tend to live on fast food while we travel. This loaf was expensive..and not because it was large. In fact, it was quite small. This loaf was so delish.

I have tried to recreate it at home and although not exact..it came out pretty good.

Since we were spouting things...we creating some flats of grass. They are still growing in our living room (until I need my lasagna pan back).

My Grandmother's Wheat Bread

1 TB yeast
3 cup whole wheat flour (I grind mine fresh..nice and warm for the yeast)
2 3/4 cup warm water
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup oil

1 TB salt
3 cup whole wheat flour

Things I added to my grandmothers recipe:
1/2 cup wheat bran
1/2 cup Bob's Red Mill 10 grain cereal
1/2 cup spouted wheat berries

Mix first 5 ingredients. Add salt, last flour, and whatever extras you are adding. Add enough flour that the mixture is still a tad sticky. If you put your finger on it a tad would stay on your finger. Mix for 10 minutes.
Rest for 10 minutes.
Shape into loaves.
Raise 45 min or until just over the top of the pan. Bake 30-40 min for small loaves until hollow sounding.

I use a small pan and put 12oz of dough in each pan. Sadly, my pans do not have measurements but they are smaller than 7x3.

It is a fairly quick and easy bread with big rewards!!

I am sorry, but I have to laugh every time I see someone like Ezekiel bread. Not the bread is bad but please look inside the rest of that chapter for some perspective about the other 'ingredient' in the original bread the Almighty commanded him to make. ;)
Mendy,
It is so good to hear from you!!! I didn't "defile" my bread. ;O

But, Barley cake sounds good!

And it does make me giggle to think a company is making profit from such a "recipe". ;)

Thanks for the smile.

You've got a good rise on that bread Toni! I'm making a few whole grain breads that call for using sprouted wheat flour/berries....did you sprout your own or are they store bought? I'm making bread this week that also makes use of Bob Red Mill's 10 Grain Cereal (Peter Reinhart's Struan bread)...I think it has the best combination of grains compared to any other product :)
